Autumn + Jake's Snowy Winter Engagement Session

It’s always such a joy to be able to work with friends to photograph their engagement session and wedding day. Jake and my husband, Andy, have been friends since high school, and Andy was asked to be a groomsman in Jake and Autumn's wedding. Their group of guy friends have stayed so close over the years, they make a great effort to hang out and stay in touch. Autumn works in the wedding industry as a consultant for Ruby Design, a decor rental service in Green Bay. Given her background, you can bet that her engagement session and wedding is going to be an absolute vision.

Jake is an avid hunter, so when we were planning their engagement session, we knew we would have to pick a date that didn't interfere with duck or deer hunting seasons. Thus, we started crafting a beautiful winter engagement session. Here in Northeast Wisconsin, January is a great time to do a winter engagement session because we are almost guaranteed to have snow, but it isn't too bitterly cold yet. Jake and Autumn’s engagement session day proved to be sunny and beautiful, and just chilly enough to encourage them to snuggle throughout their session.

Jake and Autumn have an awesome friend who offered up his beautiful wooded property just north of Green Bay as the location for their engagement session. Given how early the sun sets here in the winter, we started their session late afternoon so we would have the absolute best lighting of the day. We of course had to include Jake's adorable Labrador Retriever, Charlie (affectionately called Chuck), in the session. He was the goodest of boys, walking through the woods and later carefully balancing Autumn’s ring on his nose.

Jake and Autumn got engaged on a motorcycle road trip the summer of 2020. Both Jake and Autumn come from motorcycle families, so they planned a bike trip out to Sturgis, South Dakota, with their parents and a few others. After the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, they drove up to Glacier National Park. Standing beside a gorgeous mountain river where only Autumn could hear the sweet words that Jake said, Jake got down on one knee and asked her to marry him in front of their family and friends. She was joyfully shocked and happily said yes!

Autumn and Jake's engagement outfit choices were just perfection. We recommend selecting two to three season-appropriate outfits to wear during your engagement session, with a variety ranging from formal to casual if that matches your style. These lovebirds started with a more formal look, which was so stunning among the tall pines. A long sleeve velvet dress is absolutely mesmerizing for a winter engagement session, and Autumn looked absolutely stunning in her navy blue selection. Their second look, a flannel and a white sweater, was cozy and cute, and absolutely aligned with their engagement session vision. They wrapped the session with a simple-but-sexy casual look. Autumn could make a potato sack look chic, she’s such a beautiful person inside and out; she perfectly styled this winter engagement session.

This was only the beginning of Autumn and Jake’s wedding journey. We know their fall wedding at Autumn's family cabin is going to be absolutely epic. Knowing their friends and families, it’s going to be a wedding for the record books!

Much love,

Kate
