Kaitlin + Tim's Adventurous Spring Engagement Session in Door County
The Universe works in wonderful, mysterious ways. We never know when someone we cross paths with is going to change our lives. Kaitlin and I went to high school together. And it's always so special to be able to work with people that you knew from your earlier years. But that’s not the path-crossing I’m here to tell you about.
Kaitlin and Tim met when they were working together at a restaurant in Door County. Much of their wedding journey was centered around that special place. They planned an engagement session in Door County to pair with their fall wedding, which was to take place at the new Kress Pavilion in Egg Harbor.
While Kaitlin relaxed at the studio to get pampered and prepped by Glo Beauty before her summer engagement session, she explained that they are both in the restaurant industry and the summer they met was stuffed with food, bonfires, and lots of adventures with friends. Having just met that summer, Kaitlin wasn’t sure yet how things were going to go when Tim asked her on a double date to the local drive-in theater. But after work that day, she couldn’t help but feel butterflies while getting ready for their date. He picked her up in his truck and drove her to Skyway Drive-In Theater. She must have kept her cool, because Tim fell in love with her caring, geeky self.
After prepping at the studio, we packed the car with all of our rain gear and set off for an adventure in a downpour! Kaitlin and Tim were ready to make the best of their day—even if both were a little nervous having never had professional pictures taken before. However, they enjoyed trying new things and were incredibly excited to take some amazing photos in a place they absolutely love.
We started at The Ridges in Baileys Harbor for our first spot, where Kaitlin and Tim opened up, laughing easily and snuggling up to one another despite the overcast skies. They chatted about their favorite places in Door County and what it was like working there in the busy summer season. These cool cats have an amazing story and freely share their love for one another. Kaitlin wore jeans for a few photos with a nice top. Tim also dressed casually as he kissed her forehead, held her hand, and chatted about how he proposed.
Tim loves to blow glass and has a shed plus studio full of art and tools in their backyard—where he loves to hide presents for Kaitlin. A few days before Christmas, they invited some friends over for festive cookie baking and wine drinking. Tim took his chance to steal Kaitlin away for a few moments, and to her surprise, led her straight to the shed. Confused, as she knew there were presents hidden in there, her emotions were quickly shifted to awe as Tim swung open the door, filling their snow-covered backyard with a twinkling glow and warm candlelight. Kaitlin was led through the magical lights to her favorite antique chair sitting beside a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Needless to say, Kaitlin said yes, and they went back inside to pop some bubbly and celebrate with friends.
Door County is where all the magic started for Kaitlin and Tim, and as we took pictures at our second location, Ephraim (one of their favorite places in Door County), they just lit up in front of the camera. They are both confident, sweet souls, and make each other feel really sure of who they are as individuals and as a couple. Just interacting with Kaitlin and Tim for a day, I can tell they can both lean on each other literally and figuratively. It does not matter what is going on with life around them, as long as they have each other, they know they are going to get through it.
We were hoping for a gorgeous Door County sunset in Ephraim—one of the best places to watch the sunset on that side of the peninsula—but given the cloud cover, we unfortunately did not see any color. That did not stop Kaitlin and Tim from splashing in the water a little bit and taking a few stunning pictures down by Anderson’s Dock to complete the classic Door County engagement session experience that was perfect for their relationship and journey together.
Kaitlin and Tim have a gentle, deep kind of love, the one that you don't doubt and is unwavering. As they were strolling along the beach, they whispered sweetly to each other, giggled together, and thought about the future. They're both fantasy fiction fans, which trickled into their wedding theme. The three of us were all really excited to talk about all of the Harry Potter details that they are bringing into their wedding day. Spoiler alert, we’ve already photographed their wedding (after their engagement session), and it was AMAZING.
I’m going to leave you hanging and say that if you think this engagement sessions is incredible, which it is, just wait until you see their wedding photos. Kaitlin and Tim, thank you for being your natural, beautiful selves during your engagement session. You’ve taken a piece of my heart, thank you for sharing your love story with me.
Cheers,
