Door County Engagement Photo Session: Johanna + Aaron
The waves of Lake Michigan crashed along the exposed cliffs at Cave Point County Park. A slight in the air, making brilliant fall colors even more pronounced. Johanna and Aaron wound their way through the trees and along the rocky shore, laughing as they walked. They had gotten engaged in Door County in January, and the area had captivated them so much that they returned for their engagement session.
Johanna and Aaron met on an online dating site, and they had instant chemistry. When they were able to get together for their first date, they both knew that this was something they wanted to pursue further, and they've been together ever since. As their relationship has grown over the past five years, they've discovered that they love to cook together, take day trips for outdoor hikes, try new restaurants, and go on weekend getaways. It was on one of these days that Aaron proposed.
Johanna’s birthday present this year was a weekend in Door County at the Chanticleer Guest House near Sturgeon Bay. She had chosen the Rose Room, which had cute antique touches, a gas fireplace, and a super huge hot tub. It was perfect for a quiet weekend away after the holidays. They had already helped themselves to chocolate chip cookies upon their entry, but Aaron suggested Johanna get them another one. She wasn't going to argue, so she hopped down the stairs to the hallway table to grab the last cookie on the plate. When she got upstairs, she was splitting the cookie into two and she saw Aaron on the bed with a pretty box and a shiny ring. She was stunned and speechless. To be clear, he said, "Marry me!" and she nodded. He made sure he knew her answer, "So is that a yes?" and she finally was able to answer, "Yes!" She quickly kissed him and tried the beautiful ring on (it fit perfectly!) and ran into every part of their room to see how it sparkled in every possible light. They took their time getting ready for their dinner reservations. Johanna had never felt so beautiful and loved. They had a fabulous dinner at The Whistling Swan in Fish Creek and spent the next day driving around (Aaron tasting wine, Johanna tasting sweets) and enjoying their little secret. Upon their arrival, they told their loved ones. What a beautiful start to the rest of their lives.
As a gentle mist started to fall at Cave Point, we journeyed into Baileys Harbor to stroll along the sidewalks and admire the shops and restaurants. Johanna and Aaron walked hand-in-hand, excited for their dinner reservation that evening at Trixie’s. We stopped for a beer at Door County Brewing Company and cozied up around the outdoor firepit, talking about their careers and the different beers Aaron likes to try. They then spent a beautiful, romantic evening sharing a meal and soaking up all the love they have for one another. Johanna and Aaron, your summer wedding is going to be an absolute blast, and I simply can’t wait!
Much love and appreciation,
Kate
