Door County Wedding Venue: A Styled Shoot at Northern Haus in Sister Bay

Put together by the husband and wife owned operation, I had the pleasure of being the photographer for their styled shoot at Sara and Nick’s beloved and newly finished project: the Northern Haus. Located in Sister Bay, Door County, this white barn is one of the newest wedding venues in Wisconsin and Door County. To show off this beautiful, modern, and open concept barn, Sara and Nick worked with a number of their preferred vendors from across the state. As one of their preferred vendors, I found working with a number of their preferred professionals from Milwaukee and central Wisconsin to be a blast!

This gorgeous layout gives couples the opportunity to make the space into what they want it to be—a phenomenal canvas to work with. Northern Haus has multiple options for ceremony locations along with a beautiful, classic Door County outdoor wooded area perfect for a rustic ceremony. Sara and Nick truly pulled out all the stops to create this bright space. The kindest people you will ever meet, they have their bride and groom’s vision and best interests at heart. We love every chance we get to work with them! The winter engagement session we did at Northern Haus with Rachel and Dane showed off all Sara and Nick’s hospitality and sincerity.

When we got out to the shoot that morning, ready to start this amazing photo shoot to promote a new, beautiful venue in Door County, I was able to chat with the couple who took up the model call for this shoot. Chaunte and Justin, married a few years ago, had answered the model call as a great opportunity to dress up, love on each other, and have beautiful photos updated for this time in their lives. Married in Jamaica—at the same resort KLEM Studios was just at to shoot a wedding for Kaylynn and Shane!—they were not satisfied with the photos the resort took during their celebration, so this stylized shoot was a bonus wedding day for them. They were happy to help Sara and Nick promote Northern Haus and have some fun doing it!

Northern Haus was just a hive of activity. Sara was finishing setting up their champagne wall to go with their spring styled shoot. Sara and Nick wanted lots of florals and color, providing a welcoming contrast to the crisp winter weather just outside our little spring paradise. There were lots of tarot cards, crystals, earthy, and spiritually meaningful items that deeply inspired the stylized shoot. Events to a T from Milwaukee, was the amazing event planner that worked with Sara and Nick to pull their vision together from the drawing board.

While Events to a T was busy setting up the table-scapes, Sarah from FlourGirl Patissier put finishing touches on the cake; the live florals set into the scrumptious-looking frosting, completely transformed the cake into a stunning centerpiece. Larry from Parador Catering created the charcuterie complete with enticing meats and cheeses. All of the vendors were busy putting finishing touches together, making this stylized shoot absolutely dazzling with different textures and color. The florist, Jackie, who owns Blossoms Flower House right in Sister Bay, was diligently displaying these beautiful, gravity-defying floral pillars that were the stunning backdrop for the ceremony and reception scene.

I was pleased to be chosen as the photographer to work with all these fun and creative professionals to showcase this new venue. What I love about stylized shoots—and a real wedding day—is that a ton of vendors come in with the intention of creating the best experience possible for the client. That’s how I view it, and I find a lot of other high-end vendors agree. Oftentimes there are jokes in the wedding industry about how photographers and videographers work together or don’t always work together, but I have to say, I absolutely loved working with Lee of Vaughter Films. He is the husband of the husband and wife team behind Vaughter Films, and he did an excellent job filming. I know this without seeing any footage, just because of his personality, his approach, and his easy-going attitude.

Our wonderful husband and wife couple modeling, Justin and Chaunte, were so sweet and fun. Melody Sopa, a professional makeup artist and esthetician, styled our already beautiful bride, Chaunte, helping her to look and feel like a ten out of ten. Melody even came downstairs to check out what all the other amazing vendors were setting up, and took eye color inspiration from the florals and color pallet already created. Chaunte came down looking stunning in her gown from Erika’s Bridal Couture—and Chaunte even styled her own hair. Chaunte and Justin were absolutely stunning and so happy to model for us.

The vaulted loft is one of my favorite spots in Northern Haus, where the entire main room can be viewed from above. Photographing Chaunte and Justin within this decorated space was so much fun, capturing the grand barn doors, rustic chandeliers, and impressive exposed beams. I can’t wait to photograph more weddings here. The smooth concrete floors, white walls, sophisticated bar, and optimal location within the Door County woods is the dream venue for adventurous couples looking for a modern barn retreat for their celebration.

The stylized shoot at Northern Haus in Door County was a whirlwind of activity, with absolutely stunning photos to show for it—truly a tribute to the amazing team that came together. It takes a village to execute something this beautiful. We were so honored to be a part of it.

Much love and appreciation,

Kate
