Laura + John’s Michigan Island Wedding

Just a ferry ride, and a short drive along the island, family and friends arrived at Drummond Island Resort to celebrate Laura and John’s special day. A cherished, life-long vacation spot for Laura’s family, and a favorite get-away location for Laura and John ever since they first started dating, the Drummond Island Resort served as the perfect, sentimental spot for their vows to be taken. With a traditional log cabin feel, the resort was very homey, the staff was super friendly, and their food was to die for! During the rehearsal dinner, the mouthwatering aroma of the best pizza on the island filled the room. Not only did Drummond Island Resort serve the greatest pizza, but multiple lovely spots to perform a ceremony or have the reception. Laura and John chose a beautiful location for their reception that overlooked the lake where everyone could see a magnificent sunset.

Having set up outdoors in the woods for the ceremony, everyone was super happy when the rain cleared on the day of the wedding, making way for a gorgeous May afternoon. Finishing touches were made to the cake that morning by Laura’s steady hand and creative eye. The cake had stunning gold flakes on it, and was made by the bride herself! Not only did Laura rise above and beyond with her skills brought from her very own, Sweet Lou’s Bakeshop, her mother did all the floral designs, decorations for the hall, and bouquets as well. In fact, most of the décor the family made and set up themselves, including the vintage pink glassware.

While finishing touches were being made, John was highly encouraged by his groomsmen to do a George Costanza pose on a fur rug while getting ready! Then, everyone was whisked outside for the ceremony. The wedding party was a beautiful sight of rose-gold and smiles for Laura and John. John wore custom cufflinks Laura designed with the date they met, along with the latitude and longitude of that special moment at the start of their journey together. Once Laura was in view walking down the aisle, John couldn’t keep his eyes off her. Throughout photos, the beautiful lakefront, summer breeze, and supportive wedding party couldn’t sway John’s attention from his stunning new bride, Laura. Their dogs, Jax and Vinnie stole some of John’s attention, as both Laura and John are huge fans of their dogs, who were overjoyed to pose for pictures with their newlywed puppy-parents.

Laura and John had so much fun together laughing and spending time with family and friends on their favorite island. Even during their portrait session at the end of the night, with tornado-force winds (yikes!), Laura and John couldn’t stop beaming. We finished up with some beautiful photos out by their lake cabin with their dogs, continuing the casual and relaxed nature of their beautiful wedding day.

Laura and John, I wish you a lifetime of happiness. May your days be filled with continued friendship, adventure, and endless love. Thank you for choosing us to be a part of your wedding day.

Much love and appreciation,

Kate (and Krista!)

This beautiful wedding day wouldn’t have been possible without the collaboration of these amazing vendors:

Kimberly, in charge of sales and catering for Drummond Island Resort and Conference Center, Drummond Island Resort and Conference Center for the location of the Ceremony and Reception, and Laura’s very own Sweet Lou’s Bakeshop for the cake.
